The year 2008 marks the Centenary of Rugby League in Australia and in recognition of the outstanding contribution that Warialda has made to the National Rugby League.
The Warialda Rugby League Football Club, in conjunction with the Gwydir Shire Council, are hosting a weekend of celebrating the strong sporting culture which is a valuable part of the Warialda community.
As part of the celebrations, a Legends of League Monument incorporating the brass wombat sculpture donated by Kerry Cannon of Ceramic Break Sculpture Park will be unveiled. Peter Caskey has kindly volunteered his valuable time and expertise to lay the bricks and pavers where the monument will be displayed.
Pavers celebrating each Premiership victory in the Red and Black’s history, along with their coaches will form a significant part of the design.
A Civic Reception held on Saturday, 11th October named the Warialda Rugby League Team of the Century. The legends honoured were: Noel Cleal, Les Cleal, Len Reardon, Stan Jurd and Sid Kennedy.

The Fiery Red & Black
We cheered them from the Grandstand,
We cheered them from the track
We cheered the little beauties,
The Fiery Red & Black.
They never threw the towel in,
They were triers every day,
The team we're really proud of,
Warialda "All the Way"
From Inverell to Moree and then to Armidale,
They broke all football records
For they could never fail.
They beat them on their home ground
and each time that they came back
They'd passed the post in glory,
The Fiery Red & Black.
With apologies to "Gunsynd".
