Throughout the development of rural towns, local communities have taken action to attract General Practitioners and later Public Hospitals to their respective communities.  A meeting was held on 6 May 1878 in Bingera ‘for the purpose of obtaining the services of a competent medical man’.  It was agreed to raise ₤300 for any gentleman who was prepared to serve two years in the community.  Despite the optimism, no suitable doctors were found in Sydney.
