GRAVESEND

 

Blacksmith

 

Adrian Lee was a blacksmith at Gravesend in July 1913.


Butchers

 

In August 1921, C.J. Daley announced that he had disposed of his butchering business in Gravesend to his brother, H.A. Daley.


General Store

 

Peter Musk, a hawker, started a general store in Gravesend in 1902 and died in March 1917. In March 1908 G. Moffett opened his new store and that month offered it to the residents for a social and dance. In March 1936 C.S. Pyrke purchased the store business conducted for many years by Peter Musk Ltd.


Motor Garage

 

In June 1923 W. Huxley opened a motor garage and engineering service in Gravesend.


Stock and station agent

 

In June 1915, Beynon, Waugh and Doolan, started a new business as stock and station agents in Inverell and Gravesend.  Mr Beynon was formerly in charge of the Farmers and Graziers’ Branch at Gravesend. George Taylor, who had been a stock and station agent for some time, disposed of his business to W.W. Dickson a former employee in March 1932.  Mr Taylor then left to work on a property, twelve miles from Gravesend.


Wool and skin buyer

 

G. Painter was a wool and buyer in Gravesend by April 1915.


North Star

 

Sutton’s Store was established in North Star by September 1938.

 


WARIALDA RAIL / KELLYS GULLY

 

Baker

 

In January 1935 E. Southwell sold his bakery business to E.M. Ireland, formerly a hotelkeeper at Inverell.  Mr Southwell them moved to Bingara.  Harold Bowman opened a bakery business there in July 1946.


Blacksmith

 

In July 1905 E. Faddy opened a saddlery shop at Kelly’s Gully.  S. Robinson was established as a blacksmith there in the period 1928 to 1930 whilst R.C. Chapman was a wheelwright and blacksmith by December 1939.


Butchers

 

On 1 October 1904 M.J. O’Connor started his butchery business at Kelly Gully and in April 1906.  T.W. Wells commenced a butchery business at Warialda and Kellys Gully by November 1906.


Forwarding Agents and Retail offices

 

Wright, Heaton and Co. Ltd. was established at Warialda Railway by December 1900.


Hairdresser

 

George Jaggers disposed of his hairdressing business at Warialda Rail to J. Holl.


Refreshment Room

 

A Refreshment Room was established in the railway station by February 1902.


Saddler and harness maker

 

E. Faddy

In July 1905 E. Faddy opened business as a saddlers shop at Kelly’s Gully.  He established his ‘up-to-date, saddle, harness and collar maker’ Federal Saddlery Depot opposite the Warialda Railway Station.  He was still in business there in April 1909.  By May 1906 he announced that he had removed his saddlery business to Geddes Building in Hope Street.


C.V. Grayson'

C.V. Grayson was a saddle and harness maker at Warialda Railway in August 1923.
