History of Women's Bowls In Warialda
The first meeting of the Warialda Bowling Associates was held on 4th September 1952, electing Miss N. Stevenson as President, Mrs. Roy Cleal as Secretary and Mrs. Rob Daley as Treasurer.
Most of the early meetings were spent drawing up rosters for afternoon teas for the men.
The women did not start playing bowls until about March 1953, when the fees were one shilling (ten cents) on trophy days and six pence (five cents) for afternoon tea.
The uniform in those days was very strict, with hems 13 inches from the ground, no more, no less - and the white stockings were compulsory; hence the name, 'White Leghorns'.
In 1955, Warialda affiliated with the New South Wales Bowling Association and the offical opening day was 5th June 1956, with State President performing the Opening Ceremony.
At that time, affiliation fees were one pound (two dollars) per annum, which, in those days, would have been a lot.
Mrs C. S. Pyrke was elected, in 1958, as the club's first patroness and she held this position for twenty-three years, until her death in 1981.
Second Patroness: Ann McGee - thirteen years
Third Patroness: Ruth Barwick - eight yearsFourth Patroness: Chum Thompson

The History of Bowling Attire
In the 1960s green fees rose to two shillings and the skirts rose from 13 inches to 15 inches above the ground!
In the 1970s white stockings disappeared and were replaced with beige, as well as the hats having three inch brims.
Slacks, culottes and shorts began to appear on the bowling green, and in the 1990s, navy track suits, slacks, skirts, pedal-pushers and shorts became the new uniform.
These days uniform is only required for championships and special days, otherwise neat casual dress is accepted for social bowls.
