Visiting Warialda

When visiting Warialda drop in to the Visitor Information Centre (VIC) and meet Chris and the friendly volunteers. They will help you with all you need to know to make your stay an interesting and memorable one.

 

The Warialda VIC is a new and modern building with tea and coffee making facilities, toilets, a retail section, local produce and art. There is also a lounge and TV where you can view some of the DVD's of the area. The VIC is also home to the famous Wells Gem and Mineral Collections, certainly well worth the look.

Warialda has a lot to offer the visitor and the locals alike. If you're planning a stay or just passing through there are many things to help make your stay a memorable one. Depending on your interest, you will find something that suits just about any visitor.

For the artist there is the unique Ceramic Break Sculpture Park, an extremely interesting and different look at sculpture. The Poison Anvil is another interesting place to visit; Ashley the blacksmith makes extraordinary pieces from old horseshoes, metal and wood. 

If you are interested in camping or bush walking Cranky Rock Nature Reserve is a must. A conglomerate of unusually placed granite boulders make up the spectacular Cranky Rock. A beautiful part of the world, you'll find peace and tranquillity from the moment you step from your car. Take a picnic and recharge your batteries. Cranky Rock is the perfect place to do it.

If history is your thing then you'll love the old heritage listed buildings throughout Warialda, the courthouse, Convent and Carinda House, just to name a few. The Pioneer Cemetery is a popular place to visit, where many people come to trace their ancestors.

While visiting this website you might be interested in looking at the Thematic History Study by Graham Wilson. This study was commissioned by the Gwydir Shire Council and is a complete and accurate account of the history of the shire. It is very comprehensive and interesting. If you would like to discover more about the history of our town and/or shire then a visit to the Gwydir History section is a must.

Also on the website is a community group section where community organisations can use the space to keep the community and visitors up to date with events, news and happenings as well as current contact details and meeting dates within their particular organisation. If you wish to participate in this secion, please Click Here. 

The sporting facilities section allows the various sporting organisations to keep the community and visitors informed with what is happening in their chosen sport, to highlight their events and report on activities.
